Leslie Gulch

Leslie Gulch

Last summer my husband made it his mission to show me around Idaho.  In spite of record high gas prices, most weekends found us driving around the Idaho countryside and mountains.  It was my first summer living here and his first being back after living in Oregon for awhile.  Plus it was a great way to spend some time together as a family.

The mission for many of our road trips was to find great places to camp, fish, or get away to all while I honed my photography skills.

On this particular trip we had been driving for several hours and I was very turned around and I’m still not sure if this shot was taken in Idaho or if we had crossed over into Oregon.  I’m still very confused on that.  All I know is that to get to these campgrounds and scenic areas we went through many a field, down many dirt roads, waited for several open range cattle to cross the road, and into places I didn’t even know existed.

Since I was still in the beginning stages of photography I was astounded that I was able to capture such a wonderful shot.  I was standing outside of our vehicle on this old dirt rode in the middle of this canyon and these towering rocks.  I simply pointed the camera straight up and hoped for the best.

This shot doesn’t even do the beauty of Leslie Gulch any justice.  A combination of very rustic camping spots, fishing areas, a river, and a boat launch, you feel like you’ve been plunked down in the middle of a long ago country that has never seen a living person before.

I know that we’ll be headed back there this summer and I hope to capture more shots like this one.
